Louisiana Faces Flash Flood and Coastal Flood Advisory as Tropical Storm Rafael Weakens

New Orleans, LA – Louisiana residents are on alert as Tropical Storm Rafael continues to weaken in the central Gulf, creating flash flood risks and coastal flooding. Minor coastal flooding may persist around high tide cycles, affecting low-lying areas across southeastern Louisiana and parts of Mississippi.

According to the New Orleans/Baton Rouge Weather Office, wind shear and dry air are weakening Rafael, which may dissipate within the next day or two. Despite the weakening storm, heavy rain could cause flash flooding, especially along Interstate 55 north of I-10. Rainfall rates are expected to reach 2-4 inches per hour, leading to potential road closures and ponding in drainage areas.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for low-lying coastal zones, which may see flooding up to one foot above dry ground. Drivers are advised to avoid flooded roadways and observe barricades, as flood-prone areas remain dangerous.
