HARDY TOWNSHIP, N.J. A string of collisions and traffic bottlenecks disrupted New Jersey’s Wednesday morning commute, causing significant delays on the state’s main thoroughfares.
Even though traffic was already heavy in the morning, at 8:20 a.m., a disabled car on I-287 northbound south of Exit 33 for Harter Road/US 202 in Harding Township blocked the right lane.
In Mount Laurel Township, a collision north of Exit 36 for NJ 73 on I-295 southbound closed the right shoulder around 8:18 a.m. It was advised that drivers use caution when driving through the region.
At 7:51 a.m., a collision on the upper level westbound George Washington Bridge near the New Jersey side in Fort Lee stopped one center lane, causing delays on one of the busiest crossings in the area.
Significant delays were also experienced on the New Jersey Turnpike, including a crash that blocked one left lane and the shoulder around 7:28 a.m. on the inner carriageway northbound south of Interchange 13 for I-278/Goethals Bridge in Linden. A four-mile backup resulted from rubbernecking from the earlier incident, which caused further delays from Interchange 13 in Linden to Interchange 14 in Elizabeth.
In other news, there were delays on the northbound and southbound Garden State Parkway. As of 8:21 a.m., there was a two-mile wait in southbound traffic from south of Exit 149 in Bloomfield to south of Exit 147 in East Orange. In Clifton, longer delays for northbound traffic extended four miles from south of Exit 149 to Exit 153A.
Some delays, such as those on the Garden State Parkway northbound from Woodbridge Township to Union Township, were eight miles lengthy due to many incidents and high traffic volumes. As of 8:18 a.m., all lanes were still open but moving slowly.
