Washington, D.C. After reportedly using a firearm to attack another guy during an altercation in Southeast Washington, a man was taken into custody Tuesday night.
The event happened on the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Southeast, at approximately 7:25 p.m. After a verbal dispute with the suspect, the victim reportedly described being hit in the head several times with a handgun, according to the police. After that, the suspect threw the firearm in a nearby garbage can.
D.C. Fire and EMS workers treated the victim on the spot after they suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Officers on the scene promptly found the suspect and retrieved the abandoned gun.
David Baker, 51, was detained and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a pistol without a license, possessing an unregistered firearm, possessing unregistered ammunition, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to the police, Baker does not have a fixed residence.
Police are still looking for further information about the altercation as part of the ongoing investigation.
