Man Arrested for Theft at DuPont Experimental Station




Wilmington, Delaware Michael Hughes, 51, of Townsend, Delaware, has been taken into custody by the Delaware State Police in relation to many felony thefts that occurred at the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington over a period of three months.

The Troop 2 Property Crimes Unit opened an investigation on November 12 after receiving complaints of multiple thefts from the DuPont Experimental Station, located at 200 Powder Mill Road. Lab and office equipment valued at several thousand dollars was stolen and sold online between August and October, according to investigations.

The suspect was found to be Michael Hughes, a subcontracted worker at the establishment. When detectives carried out a search warrant at Hughes’ home, they found office and lab equipment worth several hundred thousand dollars.

At Troop 2, Hughes turned himself up on November 19. With previous offenses, he was charged with felony stealing and selling stolen stuff. He was released on his own recognizance following his arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 2.
