Man impersonates twin brother to evade arrest, faces multiple charges

Virginia’s Stafford County. During a traffic stop Tuesday night, deputies discovered a 21-year-old man’s attempt to evade arrest by posing as his twin brother. The suspect, who at first gave his brother’s identification, is now being charged with identity fraud and giving police false information.

Deputy C.D. Quebedeaux was called to the scene at around 11:12 p.m. after receiving a report of a disabled car obstructing the Chatham Bridge. The driver, known as “twin one,” informed the deputy that he was having electrical problems with the car. He claimed to be him and gave over his twin brother’s license when requested for identification.

Given that the twins were not identical, the deceit aroused questions. Further investigation was initiated after deputies noticed physical discrepancies between the driver and the photo on the presented identification document. To find Twin One’s phone number, First Sergeant D.W. Fetterolf searched a law enforcement database. Their suspicions were confirmed when he dialed the number and the driver’s phone started ringing.

After being questioned and presented with evidence, the driver acknowledged the scam and revealed that his own license had been canceled because of a previous DUI. Driving while revoked, illegal name change, using fake information to evade arrest, and giving false information to law enforcement were the charges brought against the apprehended motorist.

He is being jailed on a $1,500 secured bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
