Man killed in Southeast D.C. shooting on Alabama Avenue


WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man was fatally shot in Southeast D.C. on Saturday afternoon, marking the latest homicide in the area, officials said.

The shooting occurred around 3:37 p.m. in the 1200 block of Alabama Avenue, SE, where officers from the Seventh District responded to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, police found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was unconscious and unresponsive at the scene.

DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Joevontae Ramsey, a resident of Southeast D.C.


The Metropolitan Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact investigators. Those with knowledge of the shooting are asked to avoid direct involvement and instead reach out to police at (202) 727-9099 or submit tips anonymously via the TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in connection with Ramsey’s death.
