Man sought in pipe attack on 60-year-old in East Village, police say

New York City’s Manhattan.Police are looking for a person who, during a fight over money in the East Village last month, whacked a 60-year-old man in the head with a metal pipe.

According to the NYPD, the incident happened inside 223 1st Avenue on Friday, October 18, at around 2:30 p.m. According to reports, the suspect went up to the victim and requested money. The defendant retrieved a metal pipe from his book bag and whacked the victim in the back of the head, inflicting a laceration, after the victim claimed he had none.

The attacker ran off to an unidentified place north on 1st Avenue. After being taken by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, the victim received treatment and was declared to be in stable condition.

The public is being asked to assist the NYPD in identifying and tracking down the culprit.
