According to the authorities, federal officials shot and killed a man who had an assault rifle when he opened fire on a border patrol building in McAllen, Texas, early on Monday.
Following reports of a shooting, McAllen Police Department officers arrived at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s McAllen Station at approximately 6 a.m. local time, according to Police Chief Victor Rodriguez.
According to him, a local police officer was shot or struck by shrapnel in the knee, but no federal officers were hurt in the incident.
The man’s vehicle was in a parking lot when the police discovered other guns inside. According to the chief, the car had spray paint writing on it that the cops were unable to read.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was looking into the incident, but it was not immediately clear what the motivation was. The individual, who remained anonymous, was reported missing on Monday morning, according to Chief Rodriguez.
Early on Monday, McAllen International Airport, which is close, reported flight delays. According to the chief, the delays were from the avoidance of vehicle traffic.
