A 911 dispatcher in Hagerstown, Maryland is receiving recognition for her part in safely directing a baby girl’s birth during an emergency call earlier this month.
On November 13, shortly before 8:30 a.m., Bethani Mummert, an Emergency Communications Specialist with Washington County’s 911 Communications Center, received a call indicating that a woman in labor needed urgent assistance. Mummert soothed the caller while sending Emergency Medical Services and giving detailed directions over the phone, without losing his composure.
Before paramedics could reach the site, the baby was delivered safely under Mummert’s supervision.
Mummert’s professionalism was commended by Alan Matheny, the county’s director of emergency management and communications, who said that her prompt decision-making demonstrated the superiority of the emergency communications team.
Mummert received a certificate and a stork pin in recognition of her life-saving help, signifying her crucial contribution to the delivery.
