Maryland Man Said He was Attracted to 10-year-old Appearance after One of the Victims Reported Brutal Abuse to their Mother

After a three-day trial, a Charles County jury found 25-year-old Waldorf resident Katravien Tyrieus Vercher guilty on five charges of third-degree sexual offense and one count of sexual abuse of a minor.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of child sexual assault at a Waldorf household on March 22, 2023.

The mother of the minor victims was contacted by the police upon their arrival. During three years, the mother’s children were sexually molested by Vercher, according to the investigation.

The victims and their mother were found to have moved in with Vercher at their Waldorf apartment in 2020, according to the inquiry. Just a few months after he moved in, Vercher started abusing his victims.

The victims’ ages ranged from five to ten when the attacks initially started. The victim, a 10-year-old girl, agreed to play a game when Vercher first approached her. Vercher proceeded to initiate sexual relations with the victim.

Over three years, the offender maintained frequent and increasingly sexually explicit communication with the victim, who was 10 years old. Additionally, he devised a code phrase to communicate his desire for sexual contact with the victim while they were in public.

Along with the two younger victims, Vercher had sexual relations with them. On one particular occasion, the sexual act took place with the two youngest victims there simultaneously.

The abuse was finally reported by one victim to their mother, who subsequently contacted the authorities.

Vercher confessed to being sexually attracted to and making comments about the victim’s appearance during the inquiry. The victim was 10 years old. He also admitted to slapping her buttocks.
