Massapequa man indicted for fatally stabbing mother on Christmas Eve

MINEOLA, N.Y.Prosecutors said a man from Nassau County has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm for allegedly killing his mother by stabbing her in her Massapequa apartment on Christmas Eve.

Judge Robert McDonald arraigned 27-year-old Jeremy Emmanuel Lopez Ramirez on two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree murder charges on Tuesday. After entering a not guilty plea, he was placed under remand. The next court date for Ramirez is February 19, 2025. If found guilty, he may spend up to 32 years or even his whole life behind bars.

In a statement, Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly said that the defendant’s alleged acts caused his family to fall apart when he fatally stabbed his mother in the heart on Christmas Eve. A distraught family was forced to spend Christmas lamenting their mother’s untimely and needless death.

According to the prosecution, Ramirez assaulted his mother, Josefina Ramirez Montero, 57, in her upstairs apartment on Old Sunrise Highway on December 24, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m. He allegedly fatally wounded her heart after stabbing her four times with a six-inch knife.

Ramirez allegedly attempted to bury the knife outside the building after the incident. After being taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, his mother was declared deceased.

Prosecutors are still looking into what they called a horrific act of family violence, and Ramirez is still in detention.
