The Veterans Alliance of Clearwater hosted its annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Florida Veterans Memorial Plaza at Crest Lake Park. Many attendees were on hand to salute veterans and honor the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation.
The event included music, military honor guard, an assortment of military vehicles, and two featured speakers, Mayor Frank Hibbard and LPGA Professional Jan Stephenson, who has been installed in the PGA Hall of Fame.
Noted attendees included all five of the Clearwater city council members, Florida State Senator Ed Hooper, Florida House Representative Ben Diamond, Pinellas County Commissioner Dave Eggers, Clearwater Police Chief Dan Slaughter, and Clearwater Parks and Recreation Director Jim Halios. Also in attendance were members of the Daughters of the American Revolution, – who recently installed a plaque in the Florida Veterans Memorial Plaza, the Sons of the American Revolution, and veterans from all five military branches. The crowd also honored Clearwater City Manager Bill Horne, who will soon be retiring after more than 20 years.
