Middle-Aged Man Arrested in Fatal Shooting of 17-Year-Old in Milwaukee; Crashed Car after Shooting Victim

A 51-year-old man was arrested in Milwaukee after allegedly shooting and killing a 17-year-old during a gunfire exchange on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of West Locust Street, where the victim, identified as Javontae Davis, was in a vehicle involved in the shooting.

According to Milwaukee Police Department, the occupants of the vehicle were engaged in a “shots fired incident” when they encountered the 51-year-old man, who responded by firing shots at their vehicle, fatally striking Davis. Following the shooting, the vehicle fled the scene but crashed a few blocks away at the intersection of North Seventh Street and West Locust Street, near the bridge over Interstate 43.

Police have reported that two other occupants of the vehicle, a 20-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl, were also taken into custody. The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office is expected to review the case and determine charges in the coming days.

Homicide Statistics

This incident marks a tragic milestone for Milwaukee, as the city has recorded 100 homicides this year. This figure is an improvement compared to the same period last year, which saw 127 homicides, and 160 in 2022.
