ST. PAUL, MN: Due to significant fire and burn hazards, more than 40,000 John Deere ZTrak Zero Turn Mowers with Kawasaki engines are being recalled. Models of the mowers that are sold in the United States and Canada are recalled because they have the potential to overheat and endanger users. In order to prevent any major mishaps, Kawasaki is warning users who are operating one of these well-known lawn mowers to take quick action.
What Models Are Affected?
In particular, John Deere ZTrak Zero Turn Mowers equipped with Kawasaki engines are recalled. The models that are impacted include:
The green and yellow color scheme of these mowers makes them clearly identifiable, and the John Deere emblem is printed directly beneath the seat. On the right side, close to the back tire, is the serial number, which is essential for identifying recalled units.
The Fire Hazard
The engine’s voltage regulator is the problem; it may malfunction when the mower is being used or stored. This could cause the engine to overheat, which could result in burns or fires.
There have been 26 instances of the mowers melting or smoking, and five reports of actual fires have been sent to Kawasaki. Although there haven’t been any documented injuries, there is still a considerable risk.
What Should Consumers Do?
Kawasaki recommends that if you own one of the recalled mowers, you should stop using it right away and get in touch with a John Deere dealer to get a free repair.
Units priced between $8,000 and $11,500 that were sold between October 2018 and September 2024 are affected by the recall. In the United States alone, almost 39,000 units were sold, and 2,600 more were sold in Canada.
Sales and Distribution Information
From October 2018 to September 2024, authorized John Deere dealers sold the impacted mowers. Since Kawasaki and John Deere are getting in touch with every known buyer personally, customers who bought these lawn mowers should be alert for additional instructions.
