Missing North Arlington man found deceased in submerged vehicle in Passaic River

KEARNY, New Jersey.Following an investigation into his disappearance, the Kearny Police Department reported that the body of Brian Kolakowski, 37, of North Arlington, was found in the Passaic River on Tuesday.

On December 4, the North Arlington Police Department received a missing person’s report for Kolakowski. At 4:29 a.m. on the same day, Kolakowski’s Volkswagen Jetta entered the river through the boat ramp at Frank Vincent Marina, according to surveillance footage examined by Kearny Detective Kyle Plaugic.

Drones operated by Kearny Police located the vehicle, which had drifted south from the marina before crashing and sinking, and recovery attempts got underway right away. The retrieval process was hampered by bad weather and poor visibility underwater.

The automobile was successfully recovered on December 10 by the New Jersey State Police Marine Services Unit, with the help of Moran Towing and State Police divers from the Special Operations Section. The only person inside, Kolakowski, was declared dead at the scene.
