Mississippi Man Kidnapped Girlfriend in Jackson Leading to Hot Chase; Arrested after Car Crash in Yazoo City

A man who allegedly abducted his girlfriend and led police on a pursuit has been apprehended.

Officers from the Jackson Police Department were alerted to a domestic disturbance on Marblehead Drive late Friday evening, as per reports.

According to authorities, it was discovered that the woman had been abducted by her boyfriend, 22-year-old Jamarion Merritt.

According to Jackson Police Detective Tommie Brown, surveillance video confirmed that Merritt was traveling north on Highway 49 toward Yazoo City. That’s where multiple law enforcement agencies discovered Merritt’s vehicle, a 2019 Infiniti QX60, and began tailing them.

A car crash in Yazoo County resulted in the victim being ejected from the vehicle, according to investigators. She is currently receiving medical care in a hospital.

“People can’t stand rejection. They don’t know how to deal with conflict. So, I don’t know what the issue was with him and his girlfriend or what had led him to that. But to get violent, to abuse her, to kidnap her in a stolen, carjacked vehicle that didn’t belong to you, which compelled the situation, then, of course, also to not to respond, to adhere to law enforcement attempting to apprehend you. It had to, you know, go all the way up to Yazoo City,” said Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade.

Merritt has been taken into custody and is facing charges of kidnapping, simple domestic violence, auto theft, and felony fleeing.

The authorities are currently investigating this case.
