Mississippi Woman Sentenced after Mississippi Auditors Uncover RAMP Fraud

The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor announced on Monday that a Jones County woman pleaded guilty and was sentenced to Organized Theft or Fraud Enterprise charges.

According to State Auditor Shad White, Christy Gomez pleaded guilty to four counts of RICO charges.

The Mississippi 18th Judicial District Court also sentenced Gomez to 13 years in prison, with eight years to serve and five years on probation per count. The years of sentencing are to run concurrently.

According to the state auditor’s office, Gomez fraudulently collected funds from the Mississippi Home Corporation and the Mississippi Department of Employment Security’s Rental Assistance for Mississippi Program (RAMP) from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022.

Gomez was detained in March, along with two other men, for their roles in the organized fraud enterprise.

“Our team of investigators worked tirelessly to uncover this scheme,” White said. “We will continue to work alongside prosecutors to deliver record results for Mississippians.”
