Missouri Braces for Severe Storms Tonight Along I-70 Corridor – Damaging Winds and Tornadoes Possible

A strong line of thunderstorms will sweep through Missouri tonight, posing significant threats to communities along the I-70 corridor. Residents are urged to prepare for damaging winds and potential tornadoes as severe weather is expected from 6 PM, intensifying through midnight and into early Tuesday morning. Early preparations can help ensure safety.

According to the US National Weather Service in St. Louis, the most hazardous period extends between 6 PM and 2 AM, with higher risks west of I-70, gradually decreasing as the storm advances eastward. Areas such as Columbia, Mexico, and Jefferson City will first experience strong winds and heavy rainfall before the front reaches St. Louis and Troy around midnight. Wind gusts could reach up to 30 mph, with localized tornado warnings issued as conditions develop.

Residents should secure outdoor furniture, avoid non-essential travel, and keep emergency kits ready. Drivers on I-70 and I-44 should be aware of potentially hazardous conditions, including low visibility and sudden downpours. For the remainder of the week, the region will see improving weather by Tuesday afternoon with temperatures dropping into the mid-60s. Sunshine is expected by Wednesday, bringing a brief respite before rain chances return Thursday evening.
