Missouri felon admits to illegal gun purchases and $830,000 investment fraud

Louis, Saint According to federal authorities, a convicted criminal has entered a guilty plea to unlawfully obtaining dozens of firearms and scamming two investors out of almost $830,000.

On November 20, Dennis Latour, 41, entered a guilty plea to 13 counts of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to purchase guns for a felon, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Jennifer Keegan, 50, his co-defendant, entered a guilty plea on Monday to one count of conspiracy to buy weapons for a felon.

Prosecutors claimed that starting in February 2023, Keegan bought many handguns for Latour, who was not allowed to possess firearms because of his criminal record. Keegan frequently claimed to be the intended owner of the guns on federal purchase documents. She purchased firearms from Missouri retailers over a period of months, including a Barrett.50-caliber rifle, handguns, shotguns, and other rifles, some of which were discovered during an ATF search of their Des Peres residence in September 2023. Agents confiscated more weapons from the couple’s bedroom and 27 firearms from a vault room.

Latour also acknowledged a scam that started in June 2022, where he used false claims of success in the cannabis sector to mislead two investors. He assured the victims that they could profit from his investments and use their money to buy luxury goods, cars, and firearms. Over $718,000 was lost by one victim, and over $112,000 by another.

For each charge of wire fraud, Latour may spend up to 20 years in jail; for each case involving a handgun, he could spend up to 15 years. For the conspiracy charge, Keegan may spend up to 15 years in prison. March 11 and March 12, 2025, are the dates for sentencing, respectively.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives looked into the case, which is a component of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a national effort to lower gun crime. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Szczucinski.
