Kansas City An Extreme Cold Warning is in force from midnight Wednesday through noon Thursday, preparing residents of northern Missouri and eastern Kansas for dangerously low temperatures. Within minutes, the risk of frostbite could increase due to wind chills that might drop as low as 30 degrees below zero.
The Kansas City National Weather Service (NWS) reports that a cold weather advisory is in effect until midnight on Wednesday, with wind chills as low as -25 degrees Fahrenheit before things get worse overnight. Several counties are covered by the warning and advisory, including Andrew, Buchanan, Holt, Nodaway, and Atchison in Missouri, as well as Atchison and Doniphan in Kansas.
Residents are advised to avoid spending too much time outside, wear gloves and helmets, and limit their exposure to the outdoors. Extreme cold can affect a vehicle’s performance, therefore travel should be done carefully.
Thursday afternoon temperatures are predicted to gradually increase, but the weekend will continue to be frigid. To avoid cold-related injuries, keep abreast of local forecasts and take the appropriate safety measures.
