OTTO, MOA On Friday afternoon, a fugitive (and quite cute) spider monkey wearing only a pink tutu was found on a Missouri roadway. A strange image that immediately attracted notice was created when the odd sight prompted authorities to take action to ensure the animal was safely captured and brought home.
The Monkey s Unexpected Highway Adventure
Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a section of Highway 21 and Highway M close to Otto, Missouri, which is roughly 28 miles southwest of St. Louis, at 4 p.m. on Friday. The phone call? There has been a report of a monkey roaming the area. The animal was naked when the deputies got there, save for what looked to be a tutu.
The sheriff’s office posted pictures of the 8-pound monkey resting in the grass, still wearing its pink tutu, while deputies approached it warily.
Both neighbors and deputies were drawn to the scene, which included the animal dressed in a tutu. One of the cops managed to bring this banana scenario under control without any incidents by successfully scooping up the monkey after some cautious negotiating and persuasion.
A Successful Capture and Safe Return
A woman who had been caring for the monkey when it escaped called the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office shortly after the finding. She clarified that the meeting on the highway occurred because the animal had opened a door and fled.
Fortunately, everything went smoothly, and soon after the monkey was discovered, it was securely restored to its guardian. To let everyone know that the small monkey was no longer on the loose, the sheriff’s office disseminated the information.
