Monmouth County man charged in armed bank robbery, faces up to 25 years




Trenton, New Jersey.Following an October theft in Wall Township, where he was arrested minutes later, a man from Monmouth County appeared in federal court Monday on charges of armed bank robbery, according to authorities.

On October 23, Jeffrey L. Kniffin, 50, of Wall Township, is charged with bringing a gun into a nearby bank and requesting money from a cashier. Statements and court documents claim that Kniffin repeatedly warned the teller and staff, “Don’t do anything stupid,” before making off with more than $17,000 in cash.

Shortly following the crime, law authorities captured Kniffin and found a loaded gun and the stolen cash in his possession.

One count of armed bank robbery, which carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, is the charge against Kniffin. After making his first appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Rukhsanah L. Singh on Monday, he was placed under arrest. Trenton federal court will hold a detention hearing on November 25.

The Wall Township Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office are assisting the FBI Newark’s Jersey Shore Safe Streets Task Force in their investigation of the case.
