Monrovia Man Sentenced for Assault and Child Abuse

Frederick, Maryland Judge Scott Rolle sentenced 46-year-old Christopher Kraft of Monrovia, Maryland, on Tuesday for a number of charges, including First Degree Assault, Second Degree Child Abuse, Second Degree Assault, and Neglect of a Child. Following a three-day trial in Frederick Circuit Court, a jury found Kraft guilty on September 25th, which led to this sentencing.

For First Degree Assault, Kraft was given a 25-year sentence; however, 17 of those years will be spent in the Division of Corrections, with the remaining years being suspended. Additionally, a second-degree child abuse sentence of 15 years was suspended and will run consecutively. Second-degree assault and neglect offenders received concurrent terms.

The allegations are related to an incident that occurred on March 3rd when deputies from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office checked on a child’s welfare. Witnesses claimed that Kraft had hit the child and committed other violent crimes during this check. After more research, it was discovered that Kraft had threatened the child with a gun in a prior incident.

Kraft will serve four years of closely monitored probation after serving his sentence, which includes stringent requirements like avoiding contact with the victim.
