Morning crashes and delays snarl New Jersey roadways




A NEW JERSEY Major highways and bridges in New Jersey had severe disruptions during the morning commute due to a string of collisions and excessive traffic.

As of 8:06 a.m., a collision north of Woodbridge Avenue on US 1 northbound in Edison Township has blocked one left lane. A collision on NJ 73 northbound close to CR 537/Main Street in Maple Shade Township shut down one left lane, causing delays of five to ten minutes. In the meanwhile, a collision west of CR 643/Summit Road on US 22 westbound in Mountainside restricted one right lane.

Three left lanes in Fort Lee were stopped by a crash on the George Washington Bridge’s upper level westbound mid-span as of 7:56 a.m., while travel times on the bridge’s lower level eastbound were 25 minutes, and travel times on the upper level eastbound were 40 minutes.

In other news, a collision obstructing one right lane on the Garden State Parkway southbound near Exit 137 in Cranford Township caused delays. The Lincoln Tunnel also saw heavy traffic, with both the south and center tunnels taking up to 20 minutes to get from New York to the New Jersey Turnpike Exit 16E.

Due to severe traffic and sun glare, drivers were warned to anticipate more delays on I-295, the New Jersey Turnpike, and other important thoroughfares.
