Motorcycle Accident Under Investigation in Wilmington

Wilmington, DE – The Delaware State Police are conducting an investigation into a fatal motorcycle crash that happened last night in Wilmington.

On Monday at approximately 7:40 p.m., a burgundy 2010 Ford F-150 was parked in front of a large box truck on the right shoulder of eastbound Maryland Avenue between East and West Summit Avenues. As the Ford entered the eastbound lanes, it moved directly into the path of a 2003 Honda CBR motorcycle traveling in the left eastbound lane. The motorcycle collided with the left side rear of the Ford, ejecting the motorcyclist.

The 24-year-old motorcyclist, a Wilmington resident, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.

The Ford’s driver, a 29-year-old from Newark, and three Newark passengers, aged 50, 29, and 2 months, were uninjured. The crash led to the closure of the road for about four hours as authorities conducted their investigation.
