Motorcyclist killed in collision with truck at Brick Boulevard intersection

BRICK, N.J. — A motorcyclist was fatally injured in a collision involving a pickup truck at the intersection of Brick Boulevard and Yorktowne Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Brick Township Police Department.

Authorities reported that Horace Giambona, 64, of Brick, was traveling north on Brick Boulevard on his 2000 Harley Davidson Electra Glide when the accident occurred at approximately 2:34 p.m. Preliminary investigations indicate that Giambona’s motorcycle skidded as he attempted to stop before reaching the intersection, where traffic had halted to allow an ambulance to pass.

Rick Stamm, 56, of Brick, who was driving a 2013 Dodge Ram, had stopped in the intersection to yield to the ambulance with its emergency lights and siren activated. Police say that Giambona laid his motorcycle down on its right side, causing him to be ejected from the bike. Giambona then struck the left rear of the pickup truck, and the motorcycle continued to slide into the right travel lane of Brick Boulevard.

Emergency Medical Services responded and transported Giambona to Jersey Shore Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Stamm was uninjured in the incident.

The Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit shut down the northbound lanes of Brick Boulevard for approximately two hours while officers investigated the crash. Patrolman David Thergesen is leading the ongoing investigation and has requested that any witnesses or individuals with information regarding the incident contact him at (732) 451-2037.
