Frederick, Maryland A man from Myersville was found guilty of sex abuse of a juvenile and was given an 11-year sentence in the Division of Corrections. Judge Julie Minner of the Frederick County Circuit Court sentenced 46-year-old Jan Anthony Sleets to 25 years in prison with all but 11 years suspended on Monday. On June 24, Sleets pleaded guilty.
Due to the victim’s youth, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office initially suspended its investigation into the case in 2016. When the case was revisited in 2021, it was discovered that the victim had been abused when she was just three years old.
Charlie Smith, the state’s attorney, stressed the significance of safeguarding victims who are at risk, especially youngsters. By effectively resolving the case’s issues, Chief ASA Carpenter showed the office’s dedication to public safety.
After serving his time in prison, Sleets will be placed on supervised probation for five years. He will also be listed as a lifelong sexual offender. Lindsey Carpenter, Chief Assistant State’s Attorney, Special Victims Unit, represented the state during the hearings.
