TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey commuters encountered significant delays and lane closures on major highways Wednesday morning, as multiple crashes and heavy traffic volume impacted travel across the state.
On NJ 3 eastbound near Bloomfield Avenue in Clifton, a crash shut down one right lane, creating backups through the area. Travel times along this stretch were estimated at 5-10 minutes as of 8:12 a.m., according to the state’s 511NJ traffic service.
In Atlantic City, all lanes of US 30 eastbound were closed west of the Atlantic City Expressway due to a crash with property damage. The incident, reported at 7:44 a.m., led to delays of 5-10 minutes, with authorities advising drivers to exercise caution.
Meanwhile, on I-295 southbound near Exit 29 in Haddon Heights, a crash in the left lane was causing additional congestion. Delays were reported in the area as emergency services responded to the scene.
Other major incidents included emergency construction on I-280 westbound in Newark at Exit 13, where a missing sewer grate closed one right lane. Delays were also noted on the Garden State Parkway near Exit 160 in Rochelle Park, although all lanes remained open.
Drivers traveling northbound on NJ 42 and NJ 55 in Gloucester and Deptford Townships faced volume-related delays, with slow-moving traffic extending from Exit 10A to the I-295 interchange. Additional congestion affected NJ 21 in Newark and Clifton, where travel times reached up to 10 minutes in some segments.
Commuters on the New Jersey Turnpike also faced delays on both the Eastern and Western Spurs. Heavy traffic was reported northbound on the Eastern Spur near Ridgefield Park, while a 2-mile delay affected the Western Spur near Interchange 15W in Kearny due to volume.
State officials advised motorists to monitor traffic updates and anticipate delays on heavily trafficked routes throughout the morning commute.
