A New Jersey man has been sentenced to over three years behind bars for severing another man’s ear during an incident at an Oregon train station.
Koryn Kraemer, 27, entered a guilty plea for attempted assault on Wednesday related to the incident that occurred early last year, as reported by the Multnomah County district attorney. He was earlier accused of second-degree assault.
Kraemer has accepted a plea deal that includes a 40-month prison sentence followed by 20 months of supervised release. Officials indicated that he had significant familial backing from another state and intended to depart Oregon following the completion of his prison term.
The previous goalkeeper from Oberlin College hails from Westfield, NJ, as noted in his player profile. He completed his studies at Westfield High School in 2015.

Prosecutors allege that Kraemer was under the influence of fentanyl and marijuana, having also consumed alcohol, when he assaulted a 78-year-old man at the Cleveland TriMet MAX train platform in Gresham, Ore., around 2 a.m. on January 3, 2023.
Prosecutors reported that Kraemer bit the man on the face multiple times.
Kraemer “bit and chewed off the victim’s ear and some skin in the area of the victim’s ear and face,” officials reported previously. He told the authorities that he expelled the victim’s flesh.
Kraemer subsequently told investigators that he believed the victim was a robot due to the way he smelled. He informed investigators that the police intervened and rescued him from the robot.
According to the Oregonian, both sides in the case acknowledged that Kraemer’s schizophrenia played a significant role in the attack. Following his arrest, Kraemer was found unfit for trial and subsequently hospitalized, receiving medication during his stay.
A 78-year-old individual has passed away due to causes not related to the incident, according to KATU.
