N.J.’s Clinton Township. As holiday travel began, key roadways in New Jersey experienced water, toppled poles, and wrecks Thursday morning, causing a number of traffic difficulties for drivers.
Despite the fact that most traffic is easy right now, keep an eye out for turkeys on the roads. Thanksgiving is a time when aggressive and intoxicated driving is most common, so it’s not our feathered friends that are driving recklessly and under the influence.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation reported that one right lane was closed due to flooding on NJ 31 northbound near CR 633/Old Allerton Road in Clinton Township. Officials are warning drivers to drive carefully in the region after the problem was first reported at 8:19 a.m.
Earlier in the morning, there were brief delays due to a collision on the Garden State Parkway southbound near Exit 38 for the Atlantic City Expressway in Egg Harbor Township. All lanes were reopened once the crash was cleared as of 9:00 a.m.
A partial lane closure has occurred in Union Beach due to a downed utility pole on NJ 36 close to Rose Lane. All southbound lanes are open, but the northbound right lane is closed. Utility workers were on the scene to handle the situation after the incident was reported at 8:59 a.m.
The biggest interruption happened in Union Township, where both westbound lanes of US 22 near Michigan Avenue were closed due to fallen poles, wires, and a transformer fire. Drivers are advised to avoid the area as crews attempt to fix the shutdown, which was reported at 8:47 a.m., as it has resulted in detours.
In order to prevent delays, Thanksgiving travelers are encouraged to check the state of the roads before leaving and think about taking a different route.
