New York City Fire Department EMT charged with attempted murder in unprovoked Astoria shooting

ASTORIA, N.Y. Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said Wednesday that 26-year-old FDNY emergency medical worker Isaiah Keller has been charged with attempted murder and other offenses for allegedly shooting a 36-year-old man early on August 31.

Shortly before 4 a.m., Keller, who did not know the victim, approached Eric Connor on a residential street in Astoria, pulled out a revolver, and fired two rounds, according to the criminal complaint. Connor was hit in the right foot and left thigh. Prosecutors claimed that although Keller left the scene, he was eventually connected to the crime via video surveillance.

According to DA Katz, the defendant, an FDNY EMT, is trusted with saving the lives of his fellow New Yorkers. Isaiah Keller allegedly violated that pledge by shooting a man in the Astoria streets, seriously wounding him.

After being taken to a nearby hospital, Connor had surgery to remove a bullet that had become stuck in his femur. He is still being treated for his wounds.

The allegations against Keller, a resident of Jamaica, were reckless endangerment, first-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a firearm, and attempted second-degree murder. He may spend up to 25 years behind bars if found guilty on the most serious crime.
