NEWARK, DELA AR. After an investigation into a car theft and subsequent reckless driving event that resulted in a collision, police said a man from Newark has been charged.
According to Newark Police, forensic evidence, video surveillance, and witness testimonies helped identify George Shaw, 36, as the suspect in the November incident. Investigators found that Shaw drove erratically before crashing the car after stealing it from a dealership on East Cleveland Avenue. Prior to the collision, an officer had seen the car but was unable to start a traffic stop.
Shaw was already being jailed at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on separate crimes when he was formally arrested on November 28, 2024. He is currently facing numerous charges, including reckless driving, two counts of criminal mischief, theft over $1,500, and other traffic infractions.
Shaw was ordered to be jailed in default of $6,000 cash bail after appearing on video before Justice of the Peace Court #11. He is still being held at Wilmington’s Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
