News helicopters compromised morning police operation in Philadelphia

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In order to protect officer and public safety, the Philadelphia Police Department has asked all news organizations using aerial units close to an ongoing barricade situation on the 7000 block of Tulip Street to immediately redeploy their units.

Officer Tanya Little said the helicopter activity is seriously compromising the ongoing police operation and posing a safety risk in a statement issued by the department’s Office of Public Affairs.

Tactical personnel are still on the ground and the crisis is still ongoing. Police stressed that while media attention is valued, it shouldn’t compromise the response’s credibility.

During an ongoing police operation, safety is given priority.

In order to prevent interfering with tactical operations, we are asking all media helicopters to immediately redeploy and keep a wider distance from the situation, the statement stated.

While the investigation is ongoing, no new information regarding the barricade scenario has been made public.
