North Carolina Weather Alert: Isolated Thunderstorms Expected Along I-40 Today

Wilmington, NC – Residents across southeastern North Carolina should prepare for a wet Thursday, with showers and isolated thunderstorms expected ahead of a cold front. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington reports rainfall between 0.5 to 1 inch across the region, potentially peaking near 1.5 inches in coastal areas. A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect through 10 a.m., urging residents along the coast and low-lying areas to exercise caution, especially during high tide.

According to the NWS, rain will continue into the evening, accompanied by gusty winds up to 20 mph. Travelers should plan for reduced visibility and possible ponding on roadways, particularly on I-40 and nearby highways. Flood-prone areas around Wilmington, Southport, and Shalotte are particularly susceptible to minor flooding today.

Looking ahead, the rain should clear by Friday morning, giving way to mostly sunny skies and milder temperatures. Friday’s high is expected to reach 63°F, with drier conditions continuing through the weekend. Saturday brings sunny skies and a high of 67°F, making for an ideal break after Thursday’s showers. Sunday is forecasted to be even warmer, with temperatures around 70°F under sunny skies.

As this week’s rain transitions to a pleasant weekend, residents should stay alert for weather updates and exercise caution on the roads today.
