Newport, North CarolinaRain and strong winds are predicted for coastal North Carolina starting tonight, but throughout the weekend, calmer, milder weather will return. On Thursday night, a cold front that is passing across the area may bring sporadic showers and wind gusts of up to 29 mph.
The National Weather Service predicts rain before 11 p.m. and then a gradual clearing of the skies when the sun rises on Friday. Before turning northwest overnight, southwest winds of 9 to 17 mph could get stronger and reach gusts of up to 21 mph. On Friday, there will be sunshine and a high of around 61 degrees, then temperatures will decrease to about 45.
It will be a beautiful weekend with bright skies and calmer breezes by Friday night. With a maximum temperature of 66 degrees, Saturday is predicted to be sunny and perfect for outdoor activities. There will be some clouds on Saturday night, and the temperature will drop to 39 degrees. With partly clear skies, Sunday’s temperature will be a little lower at 49 degrees.
Looking ahead, a slow warm-up will begin next week. Tuesday will have highs of 61 degrees, while Monday will be largely sunny with highs close to 50. Wednesday’s high is close to 69, and there is a risk of rain again. Residents of North Carolina should anticipate more springlike temperatures as February draws to a close.
