BRONX, N.Y.
— A 45-year-old man who was found unconscious on a Bronx sidewalk earlier this month has died, and the case is now being investigated as a homicide, police confirmed Tuesday.
Officers from the 48th Precinct responded to a 911 call of an assault in front of 760 East Tremont Avenue at approximately 1:16 p.m. on May 11. Upon arrival, they found the victim, identified as Jose Reyes, lying unresponsive on the sidewalk with head trauma.
Emergency medical services transported Reyes to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he remained in critical condition for more than two weeks. He was pronounced dead at noon on Tuesday by hospital staff.
Following an investigation and autopsy, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Reyes’ death a homicide. Specific details surrounding the assault, including the weapon used or a possible motive, have not been disclosed.
Authorities have not made any arrests in connection with the case. Police said the investigation is ongoing.

The area around 760 East Tremont Avenue remained quiet Tuesday as detectives continued to canvass for witnesses and potential surveillance footage. No suspects have been named, and no persons of interest have been publicly identified.
Reyes’ death marks another unsolved homicide in the Bronx this month, with police urging anyone with information to come forward. Officials have not stated whether the attack was targeted or random.
