Having played Pick 5 since the game’s inception in 2022, the retired woman uses a special tactic: buying a Quick Pick ticket, rearranging the numbers, and playing them as a $1 straight ticket. Her strategy eventually paid off after years of modest victories.
She created the number 82524 using her system and played it for two drawings last week when she was grocery shopping at the Giant store on Annapolis Road in Odenton. She found out later that night that her numbers exactly matched the evening drawing. “I double-checked three or four times just to be sure,” she said, adding that the confirmation from the confetti-filled congratulations screen on the Lottery app was a memorable experience.
In a twist, she revealed the reward while talking about house renovation plans, keeping the win a secret from her husband to surprise him on his birthday. According to her husband, who laughed, she actually kept it from me until the evening before my birthday.
The fortunate victor intends to spend the money for holiday shopping and home remodeling. The Giants store at 1155 Annapolis Road, where the ticket was bought, will get a $500 retailer bonus.
