Off-duty FDNY firefighter arrested for assault and child endangerment in Queens


QUEENS, N.Y.

— An off-duty FDNY firefighter was arrested Friday afternoon in Queens on assault and child endangerment charges, the NYPD confirmed.

Francisco Taveras, 43, was taken into custody at approximately 4:18 p.m. within the confines of the 113th Precinct. He is facing charges of second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

The NYPD has not released details about the incident that led to Taveras’ arrest, including the nature of the assault or the condition of any individuals involved.

Taveras is currently listed as a firefighter with the New York City Fire Department.


City employee under investigation

The FDNY has not yet commented on the arrest. It is unclear whether Taveras will face departmental disciplinary action in addition to the criminal charges.

As of Saturday, no additional charges have been announced, and the investigation remains active.

Authorities have not confirmed if the child endangerment charge is related to the assault or involves a separate allegation.
