Oklahoma Prepares for Freezing Rain, Snow, and Wind Chills Through Midweek

Oklahoma’s Tulsa Through Wednesday, Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas will have a wintry combination of freezing rain, sleet, and snow, making driving dangerous. Drivers should be ready for slick conditions and potential delays when traveling on Interstate 40 and other major roads.

Tulsa’s National Weather Service predicts that Monday night will see widespread rain that will change to freezing rain and snow by early Tuesday. Near the Oklahoma-Kansas line, ice accumulation is anticipated, and sleet and snow will move farther on Tuesday evening and into Wednesday morning. Outdoor conditions will become hazardous as wind chills fall into the teens and single digits.

By Wednesday, persistent snow showers will be accompanied by strong north winds of up to 20 mph. Even though there won’t be much snowfall, slick roads may cause delays in travel. With partly sunny skies and highs of about 30 degrees Fahrenheit, Thursday will provide some respite, but the morning lows will still be extremely cold.

Local authorities should provide information, and residents should keep an eye out for any changes in the state of the roads. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation suggests planning for frigid temperatures and minimizing travel if at all possible.
