Over 175,000 without power in Pennsylvania and Delaware as storms knock down lines

The city of Philadelphia Following heavy storms that passed across the Greater Philadelphia area and parts of Delaware, PECO Energy Company reports that more than 175,000 customers are still without power.

Strong winds and a lot of rain are to blame for the extensive outages, which were recorded early Thursday morning. These factors damaged electricity lines and caused damage in several areas. According to PECO’s outage map, Pennsylvania’s most affected locations include:

  • Delaware County 72,155 outages
  • Bucks County 71,893 outages
  • Montgomery County 70,422 outages
  • Chester County 40,786 outages
  • Philadelphia County 20,791 outages
  • York County 218 outages

Although precise numbers were not given, Newark, Delaware, also experienced power disruptions.

PECO’s website posted a warning to use caution when near damaged electrical infrastructure: Do not move or touch downed wires, and treat any downed wires as dangerous and energized. The business cautioned that clients might not receive updated information right away because of the large number of outage reports.

Restoration timeline unclear as PECO works to assess damage

PECO said that customers can anticipate service to restore in one to three days, but as of Thursday morning, the company has not released an updated restoration timeline. Residents are being advised by the firm to report outages and check restoration updates by calling 1-800-841-4141 or using the PECO mobile app.

Warminster Road between County Line Road and Corinthian Avenue is closed due to storm damage, and traffic signals are still out in some areas of the area in addition to power outages.

As cleanup and restoration work continue after catastrophic storms, thousands of people in sections of Delaware and southeastern Pennsylvania are still without power.
