Over 31,000 without power in Ocean and Monmouth counties after severe storm

A NEW JERSEY Following a storm that delivered devastating winds and widespread outages on Thursday night, JCP&L announced Friday that more than 31,000 customers are still without power in Ocean and Monmouth counties.

Both counties had emergency road closures and continued restoration work by utility staff and municipal officials as a result of the strong winds that brought down trees and power lines.

JCP&L workers are evaluating the damage and attempting to restore service as of Friday am. Although officials said work would continue throughout the day, there is no expected timing for complete restoration.

Road closures, storm cleanup underway

Due to storm damage, a number of important routes in Marlboro Township are still closed, including Robertsville Road between Palomino Way and Cross Ridge Circle, Route 79 between Route 520 and School Road West, and Route 520 between Crine Road and Emerald Drive. Additionally, there are traffic signals at some intersections.

Residents are urged by officials to avoid driving near barricades or downed wires, which should be regarded as energized and dangerous, and to avoid traveling unless absolutely essential.

Tens of thousands of people on the Jersey Shore lost power due to a powerful overnight storm, and cleanup and restoration efforts continued into the weekend.
