PATERSON On Wednesday, Isa Abbassi, Officer in Charge, and other Paterson Police Department officials welcomed the hiring of fifteen new officers. The officers joined Paterson’s police department, which now has over 400 members, after graduating from the Bergen County Police Academy at Felician University’s Lodi Campus.
As part of the PPD NextGen plan, which strives to improve policing with an emphasis on community service and constitutional rights, the recently sworn-in officers joined the department. Officer in Charge Abbassi thanked the Bergen County Police Academy for their ongoing assistance and cooperation in the officers’ training.
The candidates received training in a variety of subjects over the course of a 23-week curriculum, such as first aid, use of force, and criminal law. The Integrating Communications Assessment and Tactics (ICAT) training, which teaches officers how to handle crucial situations with the least amount of force, was also finished by them.
Paterson’s variety and linguistic skills are reflected in the new police, which will improve community interactions. Engaging with the Paterson community to promote improved ties between police and citizens will be one of their first tasks.
