Pedestrian killed in early morning crash in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A 58-year-old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle early Friday morning on the 1000 block of W. Lehigh Avenue in the city’s 25th District, according to police.

The collision occurred at approximately 3:02 a.m. as the victim, identified as a Black female, was crossing the street at the intersection when a tan Chevy Malibu hit her.

Emergency responders from Medic 51-B pronounced the woman deceased at the scene shortly after the incident.

The driver of the Chevy Malibu was taken into custody by authorities, though no charges have been announced as of yet.

The Crash Investigation Division has launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident, with no further details immediately available.
