Pennsylvania’s Harrisburg. The Game Commission is warning hunters and locals to be on the lookout for poaching, which tends to increase during the start of Pennsylvania’s firearms deer season.
The state’s fields and woodlands are home to hundreds of thousands of registered hunters, but there are also active illegal poachers, the commission said on Wednesday. The importance of public reporting in reducing wildlife crimes and preserving the integrity of hunting laws was underlined by officials.
In a social media post, the commission reminded locals that Operation Game Thief (OGT) is the first line of defense against unlawful hunting activities and said that poachers are thieves. Both the commission’s secure web form and the toll-free hotline, 1-888-PGC-8001, enable citizens to discreetly report potential violations.
A secure recording device answers calls to the hotline, and all reports are kept private even though it is urged to provide contact details for follow-up inquiries.
