Greenville, Delaware. Following a multi-vehicle collision that left three individuals hurt, including one critically, Delaware State Police said Thursday that a Pennsylvania man is being charged with DUI and vehicular assault.
The collision happened at the intersection of Kennett Pike and Old Kennett Road on Wednesday afternoon at around 1:27 p.m. Investigators found that a black 2016 Nissan Frontier stopped at a red light was struck by a green 2000 Ford F-150 driven by Frank Yacona, 58, of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, who was going south on Kennett Pike.
After that, the F-150 kept going until it struck a white 2017 Nissan Rogue on Old Kennett Road, causing it to turn over. The Rogue’s 74-year-old driver suffered severe injuries and was taken to the hospital. Both the Rogue’s 70-year-old passenger and the Frontier’s 38-year-old driver were sent to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
When troopers contacted Yacona on the scene, they noticed indications of impairment. He was arrested without incident and sent to Troop 1 following field sobriety tests, according to the police.
Yacona was accused of driving under the influence, vehicular assault, and other connected charges. He was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $4,002 secured bond after being arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11.
The inquiry into the crash and its circumstances is still ongoing.
