Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia Blizzard Alert: Whiteout Conditions and Power Outages Through Monday Afternoon

Pittsburgh, PAA A severe blizzard is bringing heavy snow, high winds, and dangerous conditions that are predicted to persist until 3 p.m. Monday across portions of West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

West Virginia’s Eastern Preston and Tucker Counties may receive 5 to 10 inches of snow, with wind gusts of up to 65 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Whiteouts are predicted as a result of these conditions, making travel risky and practically impossible, especially on Monday mornings.

A blizzard warning is also in effect for Somerset County, as well as the higher elevations of Westmoreland and Fayette Counties in Pennsylvania. Two to eight inches of snow, particularly in ridgetop regions, combined with winds of 50 to 65 mph could topple trees and electrical lines, causing outages and causing traffic jams.

Similar conditions are expected in Garrett County, Maryland, and portions of Grant and Pendleton Counties, West Virginia, with snow totals between 4 and 9 inches and gusts of up to 65 mph.

Officials advise citizens to keep an eye on road conditions using tools like 511pa.com, minimize unnecessary travel, and prepare emergency kits. Roads will quickly freeze as a result of the predicted dramatic drop in temperature. Through Monday afternoon, there will probably be power interruptions and decreased visibility.
