Heights of the District, MDA In relation to the shooting death of 14-year-old Khamya Ferrell, who was hit by a stray bullet during a triple shooting in May, a 19-year-old Hyattsville male has been taken into custody and charged.
Chance Waters has been charged with first- and second-degree murder and related counts for his involvement in the event, which took place on May 31 in the 6600 block of Atwood Street, according to Prince George’s County Police. On June 5, Ferrell of Suitland passed away from her wounds, but two adult victims—a guy and a female—lived.
According to police, Waters, three other unnamed suspects, and a group of people they were targeting were involved in an ongoing quarrel that led to the shooting. Ferrell was inside an apartment at the time, and investigators don’t think he was the intended target.
At around 1:50 p.m., officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department and the District Heights Police Department arrived on the site and discovered the three victims. The male victim was outside the apartment, and Ferrell and the female victim were inside.
As authorities continue to search for and apprehend the three surviving suspects in the shooting, Waters is being held at the Department of Corrections.
