Virginia’s Albemarle CountyAfter a veterinarian check, the Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) has verified that the dog at the heart of a widely shared animal abuse video is alive and in good health.
The dog was taken to a certified veterinarian by the Animal Protection Unit (APU) on Friday for a thorough examination, which found no serious or life-threatening injuries.
Following additional conversations, the owner of the dog willingly turned the animal over to the APU. Criminal charges related to the event are pending a court appearance, according to authorities.
According to police, the investigation is still ongoing, with detectives obtaining information, speaking with witnesses, and seeking advice from specialists in animal welfare to guarantee a comprehensive analysis of the matter.
In a statement, ACPD said, “We acknowledge the emotional toll that this video has taken on our community and want to reassure the public that we are dedicated to holding individuals accountable for any legal infractions.”
The public has been advised by the department to refrain from threatening others online or acting in a way that would interfere with the ongoing investigation.
