Police confirm series of drone sightings across Monmouth County beachfront

New Jersey’s Freehold.Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago and Edward Gunnell, president of the Monmouth County Police Chiefs Association, said Friday that local law enforcement agencies in Monmouth County have received numerous complaints of drone sightings this week, which is indicative of an increasing countrywide trend.

Reports of sightings have come from the interior parts of the county, the Atlantic Coast, and the Bayshore Region. Authorities are seeking to exchange information with federal and state partners, such as the FBI and New Jersey State Police, but stressed that the drones do not currently pose a specific threat to public safety.

According to officials, the local police and the prosecutor’s office are keeping a close eye on these sightings and sharing information in order to allay public fears.

Residents are urged to call the non-emergency number of their local police department to report any possibly suspicious drone activity. Additional reports can be made online at www.tips.fbi.gov, where video evidence can also be posted, or by calling the FBI directly at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324).
