Police Manhunt for Suspect identified in theft of 9/11 memorial rose from Manhattan church




In relation to the theft of a gold-plated metal rose from the 9/11 Memorial at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Midtown Manhattan, police are looking for a male who is 21 years old.

At around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, someone allegedly broke into the church, which is situated at 135 West 31st Street, and took the rose out without permission. The suspect was last saw walking away from the site.

Authorities identified the suspect as Deikel Alcantara after conducting an investigation. While the investigation is ongoing, no other information regarding his whereabouts is known.

The theft has garnered attention because of the item’s symbolic value, and the Midtown South Precinct is spearheading the investigation.

No arrests or other case-related information has been made public by the police as of yet.
